You lack precision with your irons, maybe the lie angle needs to be checked. If your approach shots are more often to the right or left of the green, an adjustment is probably required.

The lie angle is a static measurement that is defined between the center of the golf shaft and the sole of the clubhead when the club is measured in the normal position with the center of the sole touching the line of the ground. If your iron's grooves are parallel to the turf at impact, you have a proper lie angle that will produce straighter shots more consistently.

Having our clubs adjusted for lie angles is important as it affects the direction and trajectory of the ball. For example, if the sole of your club at impact interacts with the grass more towards the toe of the ironhead, the lie angle is too flat. If the impact is more towards the heel, the lie angle is too straight. Both of these scenarios can affect the direction of your bullet and it can drift away from your target. It can also affect the "loft" launch angle, making the ball travel too high or too low. Without the correct lie angle, you lose the ability to accurately direct your ball to the desired and preferred line and target.

The "loft" of your club is determined by the angle of the face in correlation to the center of the shaft. The "loft" affects the trajectory and the speed of rotation, so it determines the distance traveled by the ball. More loft generally generates higher trajectory and more spin, while lower loft makes the ball fly lower and spin less. Too much spin can cause the ball to go up in the air and limit your distance. Too little spin and the ball won't stop on the greens.

If your clubs aren't adjusted properly to match your swing, you may experience inconsistencies in your game with the irons. For proper distance control and maximizing the performance of your irons, you need to ensure that your loft and lie spacing are correct.

The "loft" and "lie" angles of the sets sold at the big box stores may not be right for you!

The "loft" and "lie" of most irons you will buy directly from a big box store or online have not been adjusted to fit every golfer. At Golf Canamont, we tune every set of irons that leaves our shop.
